[Bachelor and Master Student] AIS Innovator Exchange Program Scholarship, Indonesia (Fully Funded)

The program is looking for talented individuals from AIS participating countries with entrepreneurship, technology, or policymaking background and who are currently taking a bachelor’s or master’s degree program. The selected candidates will be able to study for one semester and earn credit from the host university in another AIS country. The scholarship recipients have the chance to explore the possibility of transforming their ideas into a tangible solution with the guidance from the startup ecosystem members or network of experts that are available at the host university. At the end of the program, they will present their study and project results to representatives from the AIS Forum.

Courses
Candidates will be able to select some of the best courses at the host university and have the opportunity to receive credits for their study. They can choose from a wide range of relevant subjects including business, technology, leadership, finance, and management that are made available to them. Moreover, the selected individuals will have access to on-campus events such as seminars, workshops, and conferences.

Project Management
Outside of the classroom, the scholarship awardees are going to manage a project to test their ideas to see if they can be scaled up into a marketable product or service, or be put into practice at a national level. Through the business incubator or the research centre at the host university, they will receive guidance on how to achieve that objective. The scholarship recipients have to report the progress of their project management to the AIS Forum Secretariat twice, mid-term and final report. The report format shall be in a form of presentation slides (ppt) for business or technology related projects or standard policy memo (word document) for policy related project.

The presentation slides shall explain the following:

Significance of the problem
How the proposed idea or solution could lead to improved outcomes
The idea or solution
Clarity of plans for testing hypotheses and feedback from mentors, users, and other stakeholders (only for the final report)

The policy memo shall explain the following items:

Executive summary, a single paragraph that summarizes the entire memo
Background that explains the main problems to be addressed and the significance of them
Policy proposals and the supporting evidence that shows the solutions can lead to positive outcomes
Stakeholders Analysis
Conclusions
Implementation plan and feedback from mentors, users, and other stakeholders (only for the final report)

Mentoring
To enhance their soft knowledge and skills, participants will have the opportunity to network and receive mentorship from an entrepreneur or professional from the technology, business or public service sectors of Indonesia.

Requirements:
The Innovator Scholarship is aimed at early to mid-career professionals from AIS countries who are looking to expand their network and solve problems affecting archipelagic and island states. To be eligible for the program, at the time of application, each individual must:

Be a citizen of Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum participating countries HERE (include Indonesia)
Demonstrated leadership experience at an institutional or corporate level
Provide a relevant professional or academic experience in one of the four main AIS Forum areas of cooperation
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or a master’s degree program
Be between 18-35 years old

The selection process consists of two stages and will be performed by independent reviewers from UNDP, the AIS Forum, and professionals from academic institutions, governments, and the private sector.

The first stage is the administrative selection, in which the participants have to provide the application documents:

Transcripts
CV or Resume
Enrolment letter from the origin university
TOEFL/IELTS score
Two reference letters from supervisors or lecturers
500-word motivational essay in a word document format (Please tell us why we should select you for this scholarship program?)
1000-word executive summary of the proposed innovative idea in a word document format (What concerns you have about the future of archipelagic and island countries and what innovation or idea that you have to address those concerns?)

The Innovators Scholarship program accepts English language tests from the following entities:

Academic IELTS (paper or computer-based)
TOEFL iBT

The English language test score must still be valid during the application process. The minimum requirement for the English test score is 6.5 for IELTS or 79 for TOEFL iBT.

The reference letters should address the following:

Contact details: address, email address, and phone number
How long have you known the applicant?
In what capacity do you know the applicant? (e.g. professional, educational, supervisory, etc.)
A brief description of the applicant, including his or her:

Skills in leadership and professional context
Personal and interpersonal qualities
Contribution to the society

The questions for the writing requirements are as follow:

Motivational Essay: Please tell us why we should select you for this scholarship program? (500 word limit)
Executive Summary: What concerns you have about the future of archipelagic and island countries and what innovation or idea that you have to address those concerns? (1000 word limit)

A handful of selected candidates will be invited to the 2nd stage where they will be interviewed by a panel of reviewers that consists of representatives from the Government of Indonesia, AIS participating countries, and the private sector. Only a few selected individuals will receive the scholarship offer from the AIS Forum.
