People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.
When you ask most people “why do you want to volunteer?” the response is cantered around helping others. After all, this is the reason that most volunteer organizations are established in the first place – to provide assistance where it is otherwise lacking. It might be assisting in the fight against poverty or raising awareness about an environmental concern you feel passionate about. But at the essence of volunteering is a desire to take positive action about a cause that matters to you.
