Founded in 1882 at the heart of Tokyo, WASEDA University is
recognized as one of the most international universities in Japan. From
2014, Waseda started a four-week summer session at the undergraduate
level.
We welcomed highly motivated international students from 80 universities in 19 different countries and regions around the world in 2018. Together with Waseda students, they fully explored Waseda and Tokyo, which is consistently ranked high among the best cities to visit in the world.

You can take part in the courses which cover a variety of interests
including business, culture, economics, history, literature and art,
politics and sociology in the context of Japan and Asia. The courses are
taught in English by experienced faculty members from Waseda and
visiting professors from the top global universities. Japanese courses
are optional.
Scholarship
The Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers scholarship (JASSO Scholarship) for 35 international students who are admitted to WasedaSummer Session 2019. The qualified candidates are able to receive 80,000JPY after arrival. The on-line application form of this scholarshipwill be sent to the applicants of WasedaSummer Session 2019 by e-mail, but before applying, please check if you meet the following conditions.
Requirement For Scholarship:
JASSO Scholarship Conditions (Must meet all conditions):
- Students who have not hold a Japanese citizenship at the time of registration/application for scholarship
- Students who are from Waseda'sexchange partner institutions. The list of partner institutions can be found from: http://www.waseda.jp/intl-ac/assets/partnerinstitutions.pdf
- Undergraduate students who are in the first semester of their first year are not eligible.
- Students who will return to their home institution after finishing the WasedaSummer Session 2019, and continue their studies to acquire a degree or graduate.
- Students who are scheduled to withdraw or to be expelled are not eligible. Sch
- Students who graduate from/finish a regular course of study during the WasedaSummer Session 2019 are not eligible. For example, a student who graduates from a regular course in undergraduate school while participating in the WasedaSummer Session 2019 and/or will enroll in graduate school to continue studies is also not eligible.
- Students who have got a minimum of 2.30 GPA (3.00 maximum score) during the previous academic year at the home institution using the following method of calculation.

- If students receive scholarships other than the JASSO Scholarship, it should not exceed 80,000 JPY. Also, if students receive scholarships from multiple organizations, the total amount should not exceed 80,000 JPY excluding travel expenses, loan-type scholarships, or student loans.
- “Other scholarships” means stipend paid directly to the student. Stipend paid to the host institution/accommodation as tuition or accommodation fee are not considered “other scholarships.”
- If “other scholarships” are not paid monthly, please confirm the amount by converting it to a monthly amount.
- If other scholarships include travel expenses such as airfare, exclude them before converting into a monthly amount and check to see if it does not exceed 80,000 JPY.
- Students cannot receive this JASSO Scholarship along with JASSO’s “MonbukagakushoHonors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students” and “Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships.”
- Please be aware that when receiving “other scholarships,” some scholarship organizations do not allow students to receive them along with this JASSO Scholarship.
- Scholarships awarded by other organizations such as the home university, which are irrelevant to the studying abroad or not are not recognized as “other scholarships” in this case.

Note
- If you have chosen Plan B, please arrange for accommodation on your own.
- Plan B has been set up under the presumption that you will be staying at a home of your family/friends which is within commuting distance. It is recommended that those without such accommodation should choose Plan A.
- Since accommodation for Plan A has already been arranged for the Summer Session, students that choose Plan A may have priority during the screening process.
Requirement for Program:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college/university as a full-time student out side of Japan (undergraduate)
- 2.GPA 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or above
- The Summer Session courses will be taught in English. For students enrolled in educational institutions where English is not the main language of instruction, the following level of language efficiency is recommended.
- TOEFL/PBT: 550; TOEFL/iBT: 79; IELTS: 6.0
How to Apply:
- The application must be completed online. Online applications will be opened from March 1, 2019. The following documents are required to be attached to the online application form.
- An OFFICIAL transcript from the applicant’s home institution.
(The minimum GPA requirement is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.) - Grading scale (if not mentioned in the above official transcript)
- Color ID photo, plain background (taken within the last 3 months)
- Passport copy (pages showing passport number and face photo required)
- When applying online, applicants are also asked to explain why you would like to join the Summer Session.
- Please submit the reason for applying (maximum 200 words in English).
